Consumer Credit Counseling (CCCS)


I had a REALLY good time in college - trips over Christmas and spring break, constantly dining out, charging my rent and utilities along with student loans. After several years of being young, fabulous and broke, I decided to go to CCCS. I was $25,000 in debt. I've been in the Debt Management Program for 4 and a 1/2 years. I came by last week to pay another payment. Kelly congratulated me on paying my last payment. I was stunned. I began jumping up and down and screaming. CCCS has truly been the best thing to happen to me. It's help me change the mistakes I made a few years ago. I refer all my friends here. Once I save some money, I plan to attend their homebuyer seminar. I?ll never be in debt again.

My husband was being sued by a creditor for a debt that he did not owe and due to a decline in his business, we also had debts for which we couldn't make regular payments. In an effort to resolve these issues, we decided to settle the accounts. The reason for our visit was due to the fact that we also had purchased our home with an interest only mortgage and we wanted to refinance with a fixed rate mortgage. However, when the counselor checked our credit reports, the accounts were settled (over three years ago) were still showing as owed. He contacted the agency who provided the settlement offers and confirmed that our accounts were settled. My husband and I can now provide this information to the credit bureaus and as a result, our credit scores will increase enabling us to obtain a fixed rate mortgage with a much better interest rate. We were so pleased with CCCS that I made a $150 donation even though housing counseling is offered free of charge.

A couple married ten years came to CCCS because of difficulties paying bills due to the birth of their third child. They were three months behind with their mortgage and owed more than $19,000 in credit card debt. They were about to lose their home. Our counselor, Scott, helped them develop a reasonable monthly budget and assisted them with their mortgage delinquency. In an effort to maintain their mortgage payment, the clients joined the Debt Management Program which lowered their monthly payments and reduced the interest rate on their credit card debt. They joined the program in 2002 and had repaid all their unsecured debt within 39 months.
