Are you a movie buff? Did you catch the Academy Awards? In this post I would like to share with you movie awards of a different sort…

The Positive Psychology Movie Awards for 2015.

Movies can be a powerful means through which one learns. Movies can inspire. Movies can describe varied psychological concepts and give witness to the experiences of others. For the past seven years Ryan M. Niemiec, PhD, PsyD , Educational Director of the VIA Institute on Character, and author of the books Positive Psychology at the Movies and Movies and Mental Illness,  has reviewed many movies searching within them core themes of positive psychology. Counselors, professors, coaches and consumers all report the benefits of movies to educate, gain insight, instill hope, and to assist in self-growth. A recent study published this year reported that watching positive psychology movies contributed to an increase in positive behaviors and characteristics.
