There is a tiny tree that has sprouted atop the concrete pillar of our Lifelines sign. I’ve been told it’s been there for quite some time. At first I thought…someone needs to pull that out; it doesn’t belong there. And yet that tiny tree began to grow on me…no pun intended. Each morning I pulled into work, I’d make sure it was still there. How does that tiny tree survive atop of concrete? I wanted to climb up the sign to investigate. What began as that tiny tree needs to go had evolved into a new found respect.
It’s those things in life that capture our attention that often speak a message. That tiny tree, overcoming what seemed the impossible, being all it could be right where it was…courage, perseverance, tenacity, determination…all those character strengths essential for overcoming. And then it hit me…
The tiny tree speaks HOPE. HOPE in the form of a tiny tree pushing against the impossible and standing tall. Yes, the tiny tree IS exactly where it is supposed to be…gracing the top of our Lifelines sign…announcing to all…Here within you will find HOPE…the HOPE to push against the impossible…the HOPE to grow in the midst of adversity…the HOPE to stand tall right where you are…the HOPE of empowerment.
HOPE is revealed in the oddest of places, in the simplest of ways, in the seemingly unimportant.
HOPE + LIFELINES…it all makes perfect sense!
FYI…probably no coincidence; the Lifelines logo is a tiny tree.
