ccactus

I was recently given a Christmas Cactus as a gift. Not knowing much about the plant I did some research to learn how best to care for it. Interestedly, I learned that in order to get the fullest, healthiest blooms one should stop watering the plant after October allowing the soil to become dry. When the soil becomes dry it forces the buds to open up and flower.

I thought of life…

Have you ever been in a truly dry place? There is a stress in the dryness that can be difficult to verbalize. But often when we look back at those times in our life, we see how that dryness was essential in order to lead us to a new place, or to become a different person, or to lasting change.

Dryness can lead to a blossoming if we just await patiently in the process. Newness rarely comes without that sense of un-comfortableness.

Are you in a place of dryness? Keep your focus on the emerging buds with expectancy, knowing in time the blossoming will bring newness in its fullness.

Who are you?, said the Caterpillar…I-I hardly know, Sir, just at present,” Alice replied rather shyly, “at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have changed several times since then.”  Lewis Carroll, from Alice in Wonderland
