Have you ever been over the moon excited?! That jittery in your stomach, can’t stop smiling, running on what seems like multiple cups of coffee adrenalin, not so sure your feet are fully touching the ground over the moon excitement? SO that was my state yesterday with the birth of my first grandchild…a beautiful granddaughter! I was definitely over the moon excited…in fact still am.
In the flurry of sent texts, emails, phone calls spreading the joy of the news, I savored how our joy was bringing such joy in other peoples’ lives…family, friends, fellow waiting room strangers now friends, nurses, the doctor, and other employees of the hospital.
And I stopped and wondered…we often are so ready to share bad news, but how often do we share good news? Although in a given day we experience far more positive than negative, we almost habitually gravitate toward the negative. Research has found that those who share “good news” at least twice a week experience a greater degree of life satisfaction than those who write about that “good news” at least twice a week. Giving away joy doesn’t decrease our joy, but increases our joy, both for the giver and the receiver! Want to be happier?!….Share your joy and allow others to enjoy your over the moon excitement!
“If you seek happiness, it can become very elusive, whereas if you naturally share the good things in your life, happiness will follow. The problem is that we tend to share what’s going on badly in our lives, not capitalizing on sharing the positive.” Frank Fincham
